Medical students welcomed to CCCH

    Chase County Community Hospital (CCCH) welcomes two medical students to the team while they finish their clinical rotations.
    Elaine Buckholtz is a third year medical student, and Laura Kushner is a physician assistant student.
    Buckholtz majored in biology at Colorado College. She is now in her third year at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
    A typical day at CCCH consisits of making rounds with Dr. Richman and Dr.  Younger. Buckholtz gets to sample a little bit of everything during her family rotations. She has worked with pregnant women, adults and children.
    Being from Aurora Colo., Buckholtz was surprised with how much goes on at CCCH.
    “It is pretty fast paced since there are just two doctors here,” she said.
    A passion for working with people and an interest in science helped Buckholtz choose a career in medicine.  
    “Science and the human body has always amazed me,” she said.
    When Buckholtz is off duty and not reading, trying out new recipes, or working out she is with family. “I enjoy hanging out with friends and family any time that I get,” she said.
    When asked if there was any advice she would give to kids interested in a medical career, Buckholtz said, “Persistence is key. Explore everything. It is a long road but it’s fulfilling. The hard work is worth it.”
    Feb. 24 will end her four-week stint at CCCH.
    Laura Kushner, a Michigan native, is also a new face for CCCH. The Lousiana State University graduate, who is now attending the University Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, is no stranger to the midwest.
