JV girls wind up '16-17 season without a loss

    Members of the JV girls’ basketball team can boast of an undefeated 15-0 record in the 2016-17 season. A pair of wins last week over Wray, Colo., and North Platte St. Pat’s solidified the perfect season. Head Varsity Coach Mark Bottom credited the efforts of Asst. Coach Jeff Gleisberg, who guided the JVs to the undefeated season.
    “They had a good season, and it’s indicative of a good freshman class and several great sophomores and juniors” on the team, Bottom said.
    Chase County’s three-point shooting was on display in their season finale win Friday, taking a 46-36 win from visiting North Platte. St. Pat’s. The Lady Longhorn JVs hit six treys in the game from four different players—two from Mallie McNair, two from Sophie Spady and one each from Andrea Page and Taylor Williams.
    Page and Williams led the team in scoring with 11 each. Also on the board were McNair 8, Lauren Gockley 8, Spady 6 and Madison Schuller 2.

    It was another night of good three-point shooting Jan. 31 as Chase County’s JVs defeated Wray 58-35 on the road. This time Chase County hit five treys, all in the second half and four of them in the third quarter. McNair hit three, while Schuller and Williams each had one. Nine JVs scored in the contest, led by Page’s 13. Other offense was put forth by McNair 11, Williams 9, Brooklyn Christensen 6, Gockley 5, Schuller 5, Spady 4, Maddi Brown 4 and Hannah Meeske 1.

C team drops pair
    The girls’ C team from Chase County lost a pair of games last week with McCook and Wray, Colo. Last Thursday, Chase County finished on the short end of the 36-22 game with McCook. Four from Chase County scored, led by Valerie Herbert and Madison Schuller with eight each. Also scoring were Hannah Meeske 4 and Riley Owens 2.

   Chase County suffered a 36-23 loss at Wray, Colo. Jan. 31. Scoring for Chase County were Sydnie Allen 11, Christensen 5, Schuller 3, Meeske 2 and Austin Bernhardt 2.
