Jayvee boys defeat Bridgeport, fall to Haxtun, Hershey

    Chase County’s Longhorn jayvees picked up a 53-34 win at home Friday against Bridgeport but dropped a pair on the road at Haxtun and Hershey.
Haxtun
    In three quarters of play plus overtime, the Longhorns came up short against Haxtun, 41-44.
    The Longhorns led 8-6 after the first period and put up 17 in the second with nine from Scott Wheeler and five from Bennett Bauerle.
    In the third, Taylor Jablonski dropped a pair of treys along with a basket from John Chavira.
    However, Haxtun scored 11 of the 16 points at the line to force overtime.
    Jablonski added four free throws and Bauerle had two baskets in the overtime but it was three points short, falling 41-44.
    Jablonski led the scoring with 14, followed by Wheeler with 13.
    Bauerle finished with 9, Parker Dillan 3 and Chavira 2.
Bridgeport
    In the jayvee’s 53-34 win over Bridgeport Friday, they jumped to a 11-6 lead and outscored their opponent in three of the four quarters.
    In the second, Bridgeport made a run at the jayvees but the Longhorns held a 24-22 lead at the break.
    The second half belong to the Longhorns who put up 17 in the third and 12 in the fourth.
    Defensively, they held Bridgeport to just 12 second half points.
    Wheeler led the scoring with 12, followed by Chavira with 9 and Dillan and Logan Jussel each with 8.
    Jablonski finished with 7, Kobe Clevenger 6, Bauerle 2 and Jace Clevenger with 1.
Hershey
    At Hershey Saturday, the Longhorns fell behind early, 15-4 after one and 18-37 by half.
    They kept pace with Hershey in the third, scoring 17 while allowing 18 to Hershey.
    In the final quarter, the Longhorns made a run, pouring in 21 points while holding Hershey to just nine.
    The Longhorns got four treys in the fourth, including three from Bauerle and one from Jablonski.
    However, the rally fell short, 56-64.
    Bauerle paced the team with 21 along with 10 from Wheeler and 8 each from Jablonski and Jace Clevenger.
    Dillan added 5 and Jussel and Chavira each had 2.
C team action at Hershey
    The C team played Hershey as well Saturday.
    The Longhorns led 16-14 at half but gave up 22 to Hershey in the second half against 14 of their own to fall, 36-30.
    Kobe Clevenger, Dylan Dreiling and Landis Beverly each had 7, Devin O’Brien had 5, Stephen Johnson had 3 and Logan Jussel 2.
