JV girls record lucky win No. 13

    With just two games left on the 2016-17 basketball schedule (as of Monday), the JV girls remain unbeaten.
    The JVs racked up three more wins last week after a week off for the SPVA tournament. Heading into this week’s final games, the JVs hold a 13-0 record.
    Two of last week’s three games were closer than most this season, but they recorded wins over Haxtun, Colo., Bridgeport and Hershey.
    On Jan. 24, the team traveled to Haxtun, where Chase County took a 28-21 win in two quarters of basketball.
    All eight JVs who played put points on the board led by Taylor Williams, who scored seven. Also scoring were Whitney Hopp 6, Sophie Spady 5, and Hannah Meeske, Maddi Brown, Ashley Bubak, Valerie Herbert and Sydnie Allen, each with two.

    The Lady Longhorns returned to the home court Friday where they took a 48-31 win from Bridgeport.
    After trailing by four at the half, Chase County scored 21 in the third quarter and another 13 in the fourth, while holding Bridgeport to just 13 all of the second half.
    Williams led Chase County’s scoring with 17. Also in double figures was Andrea Page with 10. Others putting up points were Mallie McNair 7, Brown 4, Brooklyn Christensen 3, Spady 3, Bubak 2 and Lauren Gockley 2.

    At Hershey on Saturday, a big first quarter of 12 points  on offense while Hershey scored only three proved the difference in Chase County’s 43-35 win.
    Eight of the 12 JVs who played scored led by Page with 11. Williams contributed 10, while other scoring came from McNair 8, Spady 6, and Gockley, Meeske, Herbert and Allison Owings, all scoring two.

    The JVs played at Wray, Colo. on Tuesday this week and will meet North Platte St. Pat’s here on Friday for their final game of the season. The JV game starts at 4 p.m.
C games vs. Hershey
    Chase County had a pair of C games at Hershey last week, and dropped both contests.
    On Jan. 23, the Lady Longhorns suffered a 33-23 loss.
    Scoring for Chase County were Bubak 8, Meeske 4, Jozie Schilke 4, Herbert 4, and Riley Owens, Spady and Brown, all with one.

    Chase County returned to Hershey on Saturday for another C game preceding the JV and varsity contests, losing 15-28.
    Christensen led on offense with seven, as Meeske, Spady, Bubak and Hopp all scored a pair.
