Varsity girls split games in weekend action

In a tale of two distinct performances, the Lady Longhorns split varsity contests against Sidney and Ogallala last weekend.

Chase County lost Friday’s home game to Class B Sidney, who was 3-1 after the weekend, but defeated Ogallala, with a 2-2 record, on the road Saturday.

Chase County Coach Mark Bottom said he wasn’t happy with his team’s scoring output in the 23-point Sidney loss, but credited the Lady Longhorns’ recovery after a sound loss, playing with intensity at Ogallala to win by 12.

With two games on the docket this week, Chase County will then be idle until the Cabela’s Holiday Basketball Shootout Dec. 28-30 in Sidney.

After hosting Sutherland Tuesday this week, Chase County travels to Yuma, Colo., tonight (Thursday) for C, JV and varsity games. Yuma’s varsity girls were ranked No. 2 in preseason picks for their class.
