Wauneta officials pleased with sales tax vote

Wauneta officials believe the village had a good day Feb. 5.
That was the day voters approved a 1 percent village sales tax, which will provide money to stabilize the finances of the village-owned Wauneta Care and Therapy Center.
Neither the number of people voting nor the measure’s margin of victory were large. It passed 111-83 on a vote conducted by mail. Fifty-two percent of the ballots mailed out were returned.
“I am pleased that it passed,” Village Board Chairman Tony Cribelli said. “I’m glad we have another source of income for the nursing home in case an emergency arises.”
The result didn’t really surprise Cribelli, who expected it to pass, although “I wasn’t absolutely, 100 percent sure.”
