Summer road construction hits area

    Monday morning, July 27, saw the start of the main street asphalt repaving project from 5th to 8th street. This project was expected to be completed in a day but due to the threat of severe weather, the crew opted to come back on Tuesday to finish the job.
    A pilot car was used from 3rd street to 10th street while the project was in progress.
    Highway 61 from Imperial to the Perkins County line is also getting the asphalt milled and a new layer put down. Be prepared for about a 20 minute wait when going north.
    Crews started on the Highway 61 project July 20 and are making good progress. This project will go all the way to the Highway 15A junction and Hwy. 6.
    The start date has not been confirmed for the project that will go from the intersection of Highway 15A junction and Highway 6, east towards Enders, but it will be starting soon.
    Both highway projects are expected to be completed by the end of September. It is suggested to plan ahead and allow extra travel time. Please be patient and use caution around the work zones for everyone’s safety.
    If you have friends or relatives coming to the Chase County Fair, please make them aware to adjust their travel times for the road construction.
    Slow down in work zones. Remember that fines are doubled. Put your phone down. Distracted driving is dangerous, especially around work crews and equipment.
    Give the crews and equipment room to work. Be ready for quick lane changes, flaggers and sudden stops in the work zones. A few extra minutes will help keep everyone invovled safe.
