LB 343 proposed to allow guns in schools

Guns in schools is not a new topic, especially in Nebraska.
State Sen. Steve Halloran of Hastings issued Legislative Bill (LB) 343 was introduced on Jan. 16, which would authorize schools to allow employees to carry concealed handguns.
State Sen. Mark Christensen of Imperial proposed a similar bill in 2014, but it never made it out of committee.
Christensen still feels this is an important issue.
“I still feel it’s the absolute right approach because I don’t want my kids being a target with no one there to be able to defend them until the police arrive,” Christensen said.
“Even though that’d be five minutes or less in Imperial,” he added, “that’s still five minutes.”
