Fourth graders get up close look at raptors

Fourth graders at Chase County Schools gained a new appreciation for raptors during a program last week.

Blake and Vicki Orr, volunteers with Fontenelle Forest’s Raptor Recovery program, conducted a two-hour assembly for the students.

One of the highlights for the students was that they actually got to see a variety of raptors up close.

The Orrs brought four different birds from the recovery center for the students to see— an American Kestrel falcon, a barn owl, a red tail hawk and a turkey vulture.

Blake Orr explained the birds on display were recovered by the program but were injured to the point that they could not be released back into the wild.
