Matt Fisher was hired for the 1998-99 school year as high school principal at Chase County Schools, then was named superintendent six years later.

In February 2012, Fisher announced he was in the running for superintendent  at Grand Island Northwest and Broken Bow High School.

He was subsequently hired in July 2012 at Grand Island Northwest.

On Monday this week, Fisher announced to Northwest Public Schools staff in an email that he was resigning.

He spoke with the Grand Island Independent Monday, saying he was eligible for retirement last year and decided it was time to do so.

The Independent reported Fisher as saying, “his resignation was a ‘very tough decision’ to make, but after ‘wrestling for the last couple months’ on whether or not he was going to retire, he decided retirement was the best decision for him and his family.

Fisher also told the Independent he is “certainly not ready to be done working.”

“I will probably be looking for something else to do and try that for a while. Who knows, I may end up back in education at some point in time,” Fisher said.
