Community strives to help Nebraska flood victims

Matt Moser of Imperial didn’t like the photos he saw on Facebook that pictured the flooding in eastern Nebraska.
“So I said I was going to do something,” Moser said.
He talked to family and friends in the area and couldn’t acquire a trailer to use at first.
“Everybody was busy,” he said.
Moser finally called Dillon Harchelroad.
“I didn’t really want a 50-foot trailer,” Moser said, “but he talked to Brian (Harchelroad) and that was the end of that.”
The 50-foot trailer normally used to haul Corvettes will be at the Imperial Super Foods parking lot accepting items for flood victims until Saturday.
Drop-off hours at the trailer are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“We just provided the trailer,” Harchelroad said. “We’re just going to fill it and get it where it’s needed.”
Moser and Harchelroad found a list by the Red Cross of items needed for the victims.
The list, as well as other notes, is posted on the side of the trailer.
“The biggest thing that I wanted to put out there was if people are planning to purchase things, make sure they purchase locally,” Harchelroad said.
Monetary donations and gift cards will also be accepted.
If unable to make a physical donation, Harchelroad suggests contacting a local business and see what you can pay them for a needed item.
“If we fill the trailer there have been other people volunteer their semi-trailers,” Harchelroad said. “If we get too much, we will move on to the next trailer.”
Both the Harchelroad trailer and semi trailer full of hay bales will be sent to Atkinson to be distributed.
The hay is donated by Aurora Dairy and Pro Ag Management, with Nick Smith donating the trailer and Kevin Way donating the semi.
