CCS grad named NPCC Student of the Month

The Applied Technology department at North Platte Community College (NPCC) selected Kinberlyn Benitez as its Student of the Month for March.
Benitez was nominated by Roger Fattig, the college’s first-year building construction instructor.
“Kinberlyn demonstrates every day that she possesses an intense desire to learn,” said Fattig. “More importantly, she uses what she has learned to master whatever task she’s working on.”
Benitez, 18, of Imperial graduated from Chase County Schools in May 2016.
She is majoring in building construction technology at NPCC with the goal of one day becoming an architect.
“I believe if you start with a small goal, it will help you achieve your main goal,” Benitez said.
“So, my goal for this summer is to work in a construction company to get more knowledge to help me complete the two-year program at NPCC,” she said.
Benitez is one of only two women in first-year building construction at the college. She’s not intimidated to enter an occupation dominated by men.
“It’s a challenging profession for females, but it’s not impossible,” said Benitez. “Sometimes women see things that men don’t and are more accurate and precise.”
She’s wanted to go into the field for as long as she can remember.
“I’ve always been interested in building and designing,” said Benitez. “I love being on a work site and being hands-on. I’d like to learn how to do my own floor plans.”
When not studying or working on projects for class, Benitez enjoys drawing and painting.
