Wauneta gets ready for next week’s Harvest Fest

Plans are in place for Wauneta’s annual Harvest Fest.
This year’s event is set for next week, July 29-Aug. 1.

The Wauneta Senior Center’s sloppy joe feed will start off the festivities next Thursday at 5 p.m.
The evening will also include the Wauneta Volunteer Fire Department’s kick ball tournament. Held at the baseball field, registration of 10-person teams begins at 5:30 p.m. with first pitch at 6 p.m. Participants must be at least 16 years old. Entry fee is $50. Burgers, brats and hot dogs will be served during the tournament. Contact Tanner Bardsley for more details, 308-883-1463.
The pool will host pool games Friday at 3 p.m., followed by Play in the Park at 4 p.m.
The Wauneta-Palisade cheerleaders will begin serving ice cream sundaes at 4:30 p.m. in the park.
The Galen Todd Cornhole Tournament has all entries filled. The tournament will begin at 5 p.m. at the tennis courts.
The sand volleyball tournament will begin at that same time. Contact Dakota Clough, 308-289-4882, for more details.
Ribs, pork and brisket for the Wauneta Volunteer Fire Department Smoke Off will be handed out at 6 p.m. Call or text Barsdley for more details.
Night swim from 6 to 10 p.m. will wrap up the night.
Saturday full of events
Registration for the Yucca Run will begin at 6:30 a.m. at the Senior Center. The race will begin at 7 a.m. with a fun run to follow at 7:45.
BWTelcom’s Courtesy Breakfast will be served from 7 to 9 a.m. at the BWTelcom building.
Parade line up will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the parade itself will begin at 10 a.m. with Grand Marshall Tony Cribelli.
At 11 a.m., Harchelroad Motors’ Poker Walk, HomeTown Agency’s courtesy lunch at the BWTelcom building and Sandhills State Bank’s Kids Games on main street all begin.
The car show at the park will start at noon.
At 1 p.m. the Cody Fanning Horseshoe Tournament will start. Contact Jo Fanning for details, 308-350-5374.
Also at 1 p.m. will be the River Raft Race sponsored by Hondo Fanning Construction.
The Wauneta-Palisade FFA Duck Race will follow at 3:15 p.m.
Other free events on the day include free swim at the pool from 1 to 4 p.m. and Music in the Park by Night Sounds at 7 p.m.
Judging for the WVFD Smoke Off will go on throughout the day. No supper will be served, but everyone is welcome to sample the finished products after 5 p.m.
The weekend will wrap up Sunday with dinner at the Senior Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m..
The ranch rodeo with barrel racing will start at Smith Arena at 2 p.m.
