Wauneta’s Santa Saturday has another successful year
Wauneta held its annual Santa Saturday, Dec. 2.
A total of 107 people (97 guests and 16 volunteers) were in attendance, along with an open invitation to the residents of neighboring Imperial, Grant and Holyoke, among others. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., there was a bake sale at the Mercy Meal House. From 1-3 p.m. p.m., the attending children were invited to the library. 25 letters in all were written and delivered to Santa Claus. Then, at the end of both events, the Chateau Theater hosted a free viewing of The Star. After the film, pictures with Santa were being taken at the Legion Hall, from 4:30-5 p.m. For the next hour and a half, guests were given games to play, gingerbread houses to build, various contests and more. At the end of the night, the Parade of Lights began; A grand total of fifteen floats driving down Main Street.
During the event, there was a vendor hall set up at the senior’s center, with local artists offering their goods for sale. Woodwork and woodcarvings were provided by Amy Rozelle, Doug Eskew and Leah Hilbert. Metalworkings and jewelry were provided by workers of 5 Star Metal and BWW Silver. Christina Henderson offered selections of her handcrafted items, such as wallets and bags. Fin Gifts provided crocheted items and decorated horseshoes. All the while, Julie Pflum offered Christmas photoshoots.
To the organizers, they considered it a rousing success, with a better turnout than the one of last year’s. They hope for it to be a continuing tradition and that more and more attend in the coming years.
