Village of Wauneta meetings produces many results

A public Budget Hearing and meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Wauneta was held on Sept. 12 at the Wauneta Village Office. Village Clerk and Treasurer Evelyn Skelton gave a presentation of the Budget Report. The Board approved and adopted the budget of the Village of Wauneta for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
The Board approved a “Grant of License” to the Wauneta-Palisade Public Schools. This will grant use of the Village right-of-way for parking and the school will maintain the curb and gutter. The Board also approved the proposed change to the storm water drainage on Vinita and Shawnee streets, which involves upgrading the intersection from asphalt to concrete. The Village Engineers had called for changes to the School’s original proposal to the work required. The Village will devote $10,000.00 for cost share with W-P Public School, Skelton said.
The Village Utility Superintendent reported three properties had been identified as needing a nuisance abatement. Two properties were sent letters for needing lawns mowed and one for excessive trash on their property. One of the properties has complied with the lawn problem.
The Board approved the Lease Agreement between Dundy County Hospital and Wauneta Care and Therapy Center, for an outreach clinic at the Nursing Home on a part time basis. The Lease Agreement was approved as an ongoing basis. The Nursing Home will now have an outreach clinic from Chase and Dundy County Hospitals, Skelton said.
The Board reviewed the Sheriff’s Report for August. The contract between the Chase County Sheriff and the Village of Wauneta is for 80 hours a month of patrols and whatever calls for service there are. In August there were two calls for service, one report of stolen property, and one report of suspicious activity, Skelton said.
