Tuesday blood drive striving for donations

The student blood drive team at Chase County Schools is ready for next week when it hosts the American Red Cross bloodmobile on Tuesday.
The July 18 drive has a goal of 72 units but the team is striving for more, said team co-leader Tristan Nordhausen.
She and co-leader Kylee Wiest are coordinating the drive with the student team to be held at the Chase County Schools’ auxiliary gym.
Appointments are being taken from noon to 6 p.m.
Nordhausen said they are hoping to get several new donors to make their first donations next week, especially among the younger members of the community.
She noted people can sign up for appointments online by going to: redcrossblood.org and clicking on the “find a blood drive” link at the top of the page.
Donors can also call Nordhausen, 308-414-0002, or Wiest, 308-883-1384, to make appointments over the phone.
Red Cross officials say the need for blood is constant and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in their communities and region.
Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every 2 to 3 seconds and most people will need blood at some point in their lifetime.
