Trivia Night on tap for second run

It was an experiment last year, but one that proved successful. That has led to the decision to plan a second Trivia Night event for next month in Imperial.
Fifteen six-person teams competed last year, well above hopes for 10, with proceeds going to Catholic Social Services and St. Isidore’s Gift and Thrift. A committee is now finalizing plans for the 2023 edition of Trivia Night.
This year’s competition is set for Friday, Nov. 10, at the Nutrien Event Center on the Chase County Fairgrounds starting at 7 p.m. The team registration fee of $150 covers six players, refreshments and a donation to CSS/St. Isidore’s. A silent auction will also return to the evening’s events.
Team sign-up is now underway and will be capped at 20 teams. Registration deadline is Nov. 3. A captain should be named for each team who can register his/her team online at csshope.org/TriviaNight. Forms are also available at St. Isidore’s at 527 Broadway or by contacting store manager Bill Sullivan at St. Isidore’s, 308-882-3065 or by email: bsullivan@cssisus.org.
Sullivan said they were uncertain how last year’s first Trivia Night would turn out. But it was a big success, he said, based on comments from participants.
“One competitor said it was lots of fun and they had looked for something different to do,” he said. “It was new and fun.”
In the competition next month, teams will be challenged with 10 questions in each of seven categories covering a number of topics. The top two teams with the most correct answers at the end of the night will win cash prizes. There will also be door prizes.
Sullivan noted that funds raised from Trivia Night, as well as the proceeds from its thrift store sales, help people in a 10-county area in southwest Nebraska. Thousands of dollars in the last fiscal year helped people with shelter, utilities, health care, child care, household items and food, he said.

Besides Imperial, other people aided through CSS this past fiscal year lived in Champion, Grant, Benkelman, Trenton, McCook, Stratton, Indianola, Beaver City and Bertrand.
St. Isidore’s has operated in Imperial for 15 years.
Sullivan said the mission of CSS and St. Isidore’s is “to provide hope through an outstretched hand when life gets hard and the unexpected weighs us down.”
Those taking part in Trivia Night Nov. 10 can help them meet that mission goal, he added.
If people are unable to put a team together and still want to support CCS/St. Isidore’s, there are several sponsor options at different monetary levels. Contact Sullivan for those details.
Silent auction items
The Trivia Night committee has already gathered several silent auction items on which participants and the public will be able to bid that evening. There will be breaks during the competition for bidding.
Early this week, these items have already been acquired for the auction–a beef bundle from Tjaden Ranch, dinner and overnight for two at Imperial’s Balcony House Bed & Breakfast, a Spanish Paella dinner for six at Randy and Marge King’s Imperial home, wood furniture item made by Nick Schultz, several themed gift baskets, two-night stay at Uppa Crik at Rock Creek including $50 gift card to their taproom and free kayak rentals, night of bowling at Imperial Lanes, bucket of car wash items from AACE Car Wash Systems, 2 dozen Lucy Aragon cinnamon rolls and more expected.
