Theater to get new projector
On Monday, June 3rd the Imperial City Council approved the purchase of a new projector for the Imperial Theater.
On May 18th it was announced that the theater would be closed for the weekend due to technical difficulties. It was originally thought that the problem could be a server issue or another more minor problem. It was soon discovered that the entire projector was down and on May 23rd, the theater was closed for the foreseeable future.
The current projector was new in 2012 and was bought by the theater in 2019. A few options were considered by the Community Center Commission and the City Council including renting one from the theater in Wauneta. However, Wauneta’s projector is older than Imperial’s so that idea was dismissed.
Ultimately, it was decided that a new projector must be purchased. Heartland Theater Services will provide a new projector at the price of $46,434.
Some of the cost will be covered with grant money. They will also apply for the Chase County Challenge and seek funds that way, as well.
In all, it was considered a priority to get the theater back up and running. For smaller communities, it is vital to have services such as weekly movies for both children and adults. Many members of the community agree.
The timeline for the delivery and installation of the projector has not been worked out yet.
