SWPPD makes nearly $85,000 payment to local communities

Hamlet, Palisade, Culbertson, Hayes Center, Haigler and Trenton received “in-lieu of tax” payments from Southwest Public Power District totaling $84,904.35.
SWPPD customers in these communities are served directly by SWPPD. Payments are 5% of the 2022 electric sales within the incorporated villages.
Tax payments were $1,996.98 on Hamlet customer sales, $19,504.84 on Palisade customer sales, $39,844.31 on Culbertson customer sales, $14,158.79 on Hayes Center customer sales, $1,615.53 on Trenton customer sales, $7,783.90 on Haigler customer sales and additional $314 to Hitchcock County for In Lieu of Tax.
Tax payments are divided between the villages, counties and school districts based on the ratio established by their individual tax levies each year. In 2022, approximately 29% of the money went to villages, 14% to the counties and 57% to the school districts.
