At Owens True Value on Highway 61, just east of Imperial, it was easy to see the thick blanket of snow that covered everything.

Thankfully there wasn’t much wind associated with the snow on Tuesday Feb. 11, so it didn’t do much drifting. This measuring stick was in the snow atop the dumpster behind the newspaper Wednesday morning, showing nearly six inches.
Snow blankets the area Tuesday

Tuesday, Feb. 11, snow fell the entire day and the better part of the night. Everyone awoke to a six inch thick blanket of powdery snow covering everything on Wednesday morning.
Unfortunately, the snow didn’t contain much moisture, but the kids in town were happy, because the snow, along with temperatures below zero, meant they got a day off from school. Thursday, there was no school due to parent-teacher confrences and Friday was winter break, giving the school kids a five day weekend.
Wednesday saw temps climb to near 30 and alot of the snow dissappeared due to clear skies so the sun could do it’s job. By the end of the day Friday, most of the streets were completely clear.
Friday night saw another round of snow hit the area and the temps once again plunged to below freezing. This time it was less than two inches of new powder.
The frigid cold set in on Monday, with wind chills staying below zero for most of Monday and all day Tuesday.
