Sales tax quarter tops $160,000 first time
After two record-setting months of Imperial city sales tax income, it’s no surprise the 3rd quarter of 2022 topped the $160,000 figure the first time on record.
After July broke the highest one-month sales tax receipts of August 2021, August this year set another record for the $54,581.45 the city received. September was the lowest of the three months in dollar amounts, but the entire 3rd quarter finished with $160,566.55.
August hosts the Chase County Fair in Imperial, and is a big boost to local business, with the number of people the week-long fair brings in.
When the city receives its monthly receipts, the sales tax on vehicles is separated and placed in the street department.
The rest is split 50/50 between the economic development and community development funds. The Imperial city council has final say for earmarking funds from both accounts.
The city’s 1% sales tax is added to the state’s 5.5% for a total of 6.5% on eligible purchases.
This year, Imperial is observing its 15th year since the city sales tax started in April 2007.
