Road improvement west of Champion on hold

Another road project was presented to the Chase County Commissioners at their April 11 meeting.
Bart and Ryan Stromberger of Stromberger Farms met with the commissioners to discuss improving the road to their feedlot, similar to what Imperial Beef did in the fall 2020.
The Strombergers would like to use roller compacted concrete on the three miles from the end of the blacktop west of Champion to their feedlot.
Strombergers are willing to pay for 25% of the estimated cost of $2,486,443.02.
Dean Settje of Settje Agri-Services and Engineering said there are possible grant funds up to $500,000 which could help finance the project.
Upon approval from the county, the project would start with bore holes to determine the soil types.
The commissioners were hesitant to commit to the project without talking to Highway Superintendent Toney Krajewski and tabled the topic for now.
The board approved a grant application of $40,242 for additional funding for Southwest Nebraska Juvenile Services.
The commissioners also met as the Board of Equalization. The board approved 41 tax corrections based on the Nebraska Tax Equalization and Review Commission ruling concerning land values in 2021.
The next meeting of the commissioners will be April 25 at 8 a.m.
