Programs many at Veterans Day events

Friday will be observed across the nation as Veterans Day, with most government agencies, some businesses and the post office closed.
In Imperial, the day will be observed with at least three events on Friday and over the weekend.
Veterans from the county will be special guests at Chase County Schools Friday for a 9:30 a.m. program in the Longhorn gym sponsored by the Future Business Leaders of America chapter. The public is invited.
FBLA Advisor Sandy O’Neil said Dave Cook, Bob Mendenhall Sr., Chad Hendricks and Bob Thomas, all veterans, will give their thoughts at a panel discussion as part of the program.
All veterans and their families attending are invited to join CCS students for lunch in the cafeteria afterwards, O’Neil said.
Later Friday morning at 11 a.m., veterans will be in the spotlight at the Imperial Manor and Parkview/Heights, said Peggy Goings, Assisted Living Director.
Gail Dinnel, an R.N at the senior care facilities and U.S. Navy veteran, will be speaker.  Dinnel served as a Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class from 1997-2003, serving in Lakehurst, New Jersey and on the USNS Comfort and Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort, South Carolina.
The VFW Color Guard will be on hand. Eleven residents and four staff members at the facilities who are veterans will be honored. Poetry and music will be part of the program. Cake and punch will be served.
On Sunday, the Imperial VFW Post 4688 and auxiliary will host its annual veterans supper at 6 p.m. in their hall at 416 Broadway.
All veterans and their spouses are invited, said Sue Moore, VFW auxiliary president.
Those attending are asked to bring a side dish, salad or dessert. The Post and auxiliary will provide turkey, ham, potatoes, rolls and beverages.
Guest speakers, who will read their essays, will be the first, second and third place winners of the Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy contests at CCS.
