Primary elections are drawing near

The 2024 Primary Elections are fast approaching. On Tuesday, May 14, Nebraska will hold its statewide elections ahead of the General Election in November. Chase County voters will only see a few elections on their Primary Ballot. On the ballot May 14, voters will see the Presidential race, two Senatorial races, and a Congressional race.
In the running for President are the Republican nominees Nikki Haley, Perry Johnson, and Donald J. Trump. The Democratic candidates are Joseph R. Biden Jr. and Dean Phillips. Running under the Libertarian banner are Charles Ballay, Jacob Hornberger, Lars Mapstead, Chase Russell Oliver, Michael Rectenwald and Mike ter Maat.
Running for a six-year term in the United States Senate are Republicans Arron Kowalski and incumbent Deb Fischer. Running under the Legal Marijuana NOW party are Kenneth Peterson and Kerry Eddy.
A special election to fill the last two years of Senator Ben Sasse’s term, who resigned from his position in the U.S. Senate on Jan. 8, 2023, will also be held. The seat is currently held by Pete Ricketts who was appointed by Governor Jim Pillen after Sasse resigned. In the running are incumbent Pete Ricketts, John Glen Weaver, Mac Stevens and Democratic nominee Preston Love Jr.
Running to represent Congressional District 3 for a two-year term are Republicans Adrian Smith–the incumbent, John Walz, Robert McCuiston and Democrats Danial Ebers and David J. Else.
There will be no local races listed on the ballot. Because the local races “do not exceed two candidates for each position to be filled,” they will auto-advance to the General Election in the fall.
Voters who are registered as Nonpartisan (previously known as Independent) will not find any races listed on their ballots. However, they can visit the polls on Election Day and mark a ballot to receive voting credit.
Polls will open at 7 a.m. MT on the 14th and close at 7 p.m. MT.
