Plans unfolding for Chamber’s Christmas events in Imperial

Thanksgiving weekend will be a big one in Imperial, especially Saturday, Nov. 26, when the Imperial Chamber of Commerce helps get the community ready for Christmas.
Considered one of the busiest shopping weekends of the holiday season, the chamber moved up its annual Christmas events to the Thanksgiving weekend this year from December dates in the past.
The event theme is “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.”
Chamber President Adam Lambert said Chris Krausnick is coordinating the Nov. 26 events. It’s her fourth year in the role.
“It takes a village to get these events off the ground and I appreciate all that Chris is doing in organizing everything,” Lambert said.
Activities will start at 4 p.m. with both indoor events in the city gym and others outdoors on the City Square grounds.
The city gym will be the site for cookie decorating, a cake walk, Christmas bingo and letter-writing to Santa.
Children will be able to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, see a live nativity scene and make s’mores outdoors, Krausnick said.
Capping off the events will be the Christmas lighted parade at 6:30 p.m.
Krausnick said there isn’t a theme for the parade—just anything Christmas. Businesses, clubs and families are invited to enter for free.
The light parade will follow the same route as the Chase County Fair parade, starting at the Imperial Manor, traveling east on 10th Street to Broadway, where it will turn south and end at 3rd Street.
The city council approved a resolution last week that will close Broadway for the parade.
Prizes for the first, second and third place parade entries will be given, Krausnick said, in the form of Chamber Bucks.
Krausnick is also working on getting a soup and pie supper organized for that evening.
Residential lighting,
light pole contests
Krausnick noted the chamber is also coordinating two decorating contests again this year, one for residential lighting and another for decorating light poles.
Chamber Bucks prizes will be awarded in both of those contests, as well.
Krausnick now has entry forms for the Christmas parade and residential lighting contests. Business owners or others interested in the light pole contest can contact her for more details at 308-883-2322.
