New event bringing draft horses to fair

Fair board members plan to bring new entertainment to the Chase County Fair this year.
On Wednesday, Aug. 16, a Draft Horse Obstacle Competition will be taking place.
These competitions include events in which teams of draft horses navigate a course filled with various obstacles. These horses are typically large and muscular, bred for heavy work.
The horses are judged on their ability to complete the course quickly and efficiently, as well as how well they respond to their handlers.
These competitions are a way to showcase the strength and agility of these animals.
David Warselli will be putting on the competition for the first time in Chase County.
“I was contacted by David and it was an event he does in the area and he’d like to bring them to our fair,” fair board member Traci Space said.
“He has about 10 to 15 guys that do this competition with their horses.”
The event will take place in the Allo Arena on the fairgrounds at 6 p.m. Aug. 16 and will be a free event for the public.
The event is expected to last from two to three hours, Space said.
The fair board wanted to bring as many events as possible for the public’s entertainment.
“The arena was not being used on Wednesday night so we thought we would try it.”
