New divisions announced for co. fair’s photo contest

    Four new categories for this year’s Chase County Fair and Expo Open Photo Contest will challenge photographers vying for cash prizes.
    Categories this year include Barns, Family, Humor and A Storm Is Coming, said Samie Johnson, who chairs the annual contest at the fair.
    “For this contest I try to have something for everyone to enter with. It should be a fun year of photos and I can’t wait to see what will be entered,” she said.
    Deadline for this year’s contest is Friday, Aug. 4, by 5 p.m. MT.
    Johnson said judges use a point system in each category for selecting winners.
    Each category will have a first, second and third place winner along with a Best of Show, all who will receive cash prize money. A fourth place honorable mention will also be chosen.
     Cash prize amounts will be determined by how many photos are entered into this year’s contest, she said.
    There will be a fee of $20 per entry. This cost covers the  production of a photo print for display at the fair and processing fees.
    No printed photos will be submitted. Only digital photos will be accepted, sent to open photocontest@gmail.com.
    Johnson will then email participants an invoice to be paid online by the photographer. No entries will be allowed to be judged if fees are not paid. Photos will only be on display after the entry fee is received, Johnson said.
    As in previous years, entrants must be 16 years or older and there is no limit on entries. All entered photos should be suitable for family viewing. Entries also constitute permission for the Chase County Fair to use them in publications and online, she added.
    All paid entry fee photos will be on display during Chase County Fair week in the exhibit building.
    Cash prizes will be mailed to winners after the fair. No deliveries of photos will be made.
