Mid-Plains Community College youth, adult classes starting soon

Taking classes at a community college can be a great way to learn new skills, expand your knowledge, meet new people and engage in social activities.
Check out these mostly non-credit classes Mid-Plains Community College’s Imperial Campus is offering to adults and youth in the community help find new interests, hobbies and activities.
Adult community classes schedule
French (online)—An introduction to the grammatical and conversational study of French. Aug. 20-Dec. 14. Taught by Jennifer Edson. 5 Credit Hours
Conversational Spanish—Beginning acquisition course based on high frequency Spanish words. This course will be taught with acquisition driven instruction, including comprehensible input in the form of stories and focused vocabulary. Sundays, Sept. 10-Oct. 8, 3-5 p.m. Taught by Jan Coone. $69 fee.
Getting little feet wet—Participants will be trained in interactive, hands-on activities for young learners to explore different aspects of water from water properties to why water is essential to earth. Each activity offers Pre-K and K-2 options. (Children, ages 1-8). Sept. 12, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Taught by Kimberly Cook, UNL Extension Educator. $10 fee. Two credit hours.
Navigating Medicare: understanding eligibility, coverage and costs—This course will provide an overview of Medicare, including who is eligible, how to enroll and when to enroll. Gain an understanding of the four parts of Medicare and how they provide coverage for medical expenses. Sept. 21, 6-8 p.m. Taught by Whitney Kester, Licensed Insurance Agent. Free.
Heartsaver first aid and CPR—Oct. 10-17, 6-9 p.m. Taught by Sabrina Hayes. $65 fee.
Circle of security—At times we feel lost about what children might need from us. This program is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened. This class welcomes parents, grandparents, family members, teachers, day care providers and foster parents. Mondays, Oct. 2-Nov. 20, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Taught by Carol Kunnemann. Free.
Experimental watercolor—An exploration of various methods of resist using water-based paints and collage on watercolor paper. All levels of experience are welcome to attend. Tuesdays, Oct. 10-24, 9 a.m. to noon. Taught by Marcia Bauerle. $99 fee.
Who gets grandma’s yellow pie plate?—This class provides practical strategies to protect your relationships when passing on personal possessions. Transferring personal possessions is inevitable when a family member downsizes, declutters, moves or dies. Oct. 11, 5:30-8 p.m. Taught by Brandi Hilton-Hagemann. $15 fee.
English language and GED preparation classes—Monday-Wednesday, 3:30-6:30 p.m. Free.
Youth fall classes
Yoga for children—(Ages 8-12) Your child will increase their flexibility, strength and coordination as they develop their awareness, focus, relaxation and mindfulness in our 6-week Yoga class. Thursdays, Sept. 14-Oct. 19, 5:30-6 p.m. Taught by Brianna Pribbeno. $95 fee.
Iphone photography (Ages 10+) Master the skills needed to take eye-catching photographs with your phone. Sept. 19, 6-8 p.m. Taught by Morayah Cupp. $30 fee.
Jump into 3D with ZSpace—(10+) The first class introduces students to the immersive 3D learning platform ZSpace. Learn to move, resize and explore objects in augmented reality 3D. In the second class, students will use their new 3D stylus mastery to create 3-dimensional virtual art. Sept. 23 and 30, 9-11 a.m. Taught by Jennifer Edson. $45 fee.
Robotics for youth—(Ages 8-11) Learn about robotic building and programming with Lego EV3 technology. Apply science, technology, engineering and math concepts to complete challenges while having fun. Nov. 4 and 11, 9 a.m. to noon. Taught by Chance Thayer. $45 fee.
