Medical emergency led to Friday accident

A Central City man likely had a medical issue, leading to a one-vehicle accident Friday morning northwest of Imperial.
Chase County Sheriff Kevin Mueller said his office got the call at about 7 a.m. Friday concerning the one-vehicle accident on 741 Rd. and 329 Ave.
Mueller and Chief Deputy Mike Dukes responded, along with the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department and Imperial EMS. When emergency personnel arrived, Mueller said the driver, Mike Reeves, 72, was out of the vehicle and CPR was being preformed on him.
Reeves was transported to the Chase County Community Hospital by EMS, where he was pronounced dead after life-saving measures failed.
“It appears from our investigation that Reeves suffered a medical emergency and lost control of his 2023 Ford Ranger pickup,” the sheriff said.
The pickup struck a power pole belonging to the city of Imperial, which broke the pole off and caused an outage, he said.
Mueller said damage to the pickup was estimated at $18,000. Damage costs to the pole were unknown.
A full obituary of Reeves, who is the father of Dan Reeves of Imperial, appears on page 4 of this issue.
