Matt Fisher takes interim superintendent job in GI

A former principal and superintendent at Chase County Schools will be taking the helm at Grand Island Public Schools next month.
The GIPS Board of Education, through the school’s website, announced Matt Fisher was tapped to serve as the district’s interim superintendent.
His first official day on the job will be Wednesday, Feb. 1.
Fisher, now living in Grand Island, currently serves as the Director of Public Finance at First National Capital Markets.
He’s been in education 32 years, and previous to his current job, served as superintendent at GI Northwest from 2012-2019. Prior to his move to Grand Island, was a 7-12 principal and superintendent at Chase County Schools.
Fisher began his education tenure in 1986 as a math and computer science teacher at Rock County High School in Bassett.
Fisher will be operating under a 17-month contract that begins Feb. 1. During the first five months of the contract, he’ll earn $100,000. During the last 12 months, his gross salary will be $275,000.
School board members constructed the agreement in a two-part, 17-month fashion to allow the board to continue being proactive in its search for a permanent superintendent.
The superintendent search process began when Dr. Tawana Grover resigned from the position Dec. 9 to pursue other career opportunities. She served GIPS seven years.
