Imperial resuming dead tree identification, removal efforts

Imperial is resuming the dead tree review and follow-up in the city limits that began in the fall 2019.
A dead tree review was completed to identify dead tree properties and letters were mailed out to residents giving them until April 1, 2020 in which to clear dead trees.
Due to COVID-19 city officials suspended the project until recently, so the deadline was extended
A second notification letter is going in the mail, providing a new deadline of May 1 this year to have dead trees cleared.
There were more than 50 dead tree properties originally identified, said CJ Poltack, Executive Director of West Central Nebraska Development District (WCNDD).
The city contracts with WCNDD to serve as its nuisance officer.
Poltack thanked those residents who cleared trees as requested.
For those who have cleared there is no further concern, she said.
Poltack noted there are a number of tree service companies that can assist residents in the process, and the tree pile located at the transfer station at the city’s southwest edge is free for disposal.
For those who are dropping trees, she noted that log piles are considered a nuisance, but wood cut up to be used for heating is not if it is neatly stacked.
Residents can contact WCNDD with questions at 308-284-6077.
