Hospital assisting health district with vaccines for those 75 years and older

The status of the COVID-19 vaccination program changes daily, so it’s important to  monitor updates for vaccine availability.
A news release from Chase County Community Hospital (CCCH) notes they were asked to assist Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) with vaccinations for people 75 years and older, said Shawn Jaeger, CCCH Foundation & Marketing Coordinator.
“SWNPHD has asked us to assist them in screening, scheduling and administering vaccines to residents of Chase County in the over 75 category,” Jaeger said.
Jaeger said the appointments scheduled through the hospital, which are full, will use remaining vaccine the hospital was allotted.
Vaccinations are scheduled for next Tuesday afternoon at the EMS ambulance barn. An appointment had to be scheduled to receive the vaccine.
He reiterated that all appointments made to be handled by hospital staff for next Tuesday are full.
There was also a vaccine clinic scheduled for Jan. 19 in Imperial by SWNPHD, but that was cancelled.
The hospital’s website on Wednesday read: “SWNPHD’s COVID vaccine clinic for Jan. 19 in Imperial has been cancelled. Our partners at Chase County Clinic ARE holding a COVID vaccination clinic on Jan. 19. This has led to some confusion, understandably. Their (hospital) clinic is full and no further appointments are available.”
Jaeger said they have completed COVID-19 vaccinations to all interested Phase-1a recipients for their healthcare workers as of Jan. 5, but those who meet the qualifications for Phase-1a who would still like to receive the vaccine may do so by making an appointment.
Upcoming vaccinations
SWNPHD will schedule additional Phase-1b vaccinations to frontline essential workers such as firefighters, police officers, correction officers, those in the food industry (not farmers), public transit workers, the educational sector and daycare workers for Chase County when vaccine is available, said Myra Stoney of SWNPHD.
Check the health district website swhealth.ne.gov for more information on upcoming vaccination schedules.
It is not yet known when Phase-1c (over 65 years and high risk individuals) will be implemented, but all information relating to availability will be announced as soon as it is released, said Jaeger.
