Horse shows in full swing, CCF 4-H show Sunday

The Fonner Park State 4-H Horse Expo was held in Grand Island July 15-19, 2023 with 245 exhibitors, 384 horses and 1333 entries representing over 50 Nebraska Counties.
Odessa Zadina of Enders was the High Point Individual Champion Judge. She is the daughter of Brandon and Penny Zadina.
Paige Schepers, daughter of Kari and Aaron Schepers, was the Champions in the Miniature/Pony Halter class. Paige was also the Champion with her miniature gelding in the Miniature Gelding Halter class. Paige showed the Champion In-Hand Trail Miniature horse and was Reserve Champion in the Advanced Western Horsemanship class.
The Expo is the pinnacle showing experience for members of the 4-H Horse Program in Nebraska.
The show includes a multitude of classes for youth ages 10-18 and their horses and ponies.
Classes for youth in Horsemanship Level 1 include halter and showmanship along with Judging and Hippology competitions.
Most classes require the youth to have passed Horsemanship Level 2 while some classes require Horsemanship Level 2, 3 and 4. Each level requires the youth to have passed knowledge and safety tests, along with presenting demonstrations and written tests.
Classes included are Halter and Showmanship at Halter, Western Pleasure and Horsemanship, Trail, Ranch Pleasure and Ranch Riding, English and Western Dressage. English classes included are Hunter Under Saddle and Hunt Seat Equitation and Hunter Hack. Other classes are Western Riding, Reining, Working Ranch Horse, Pole Bending and Barrel Racing.
Silver Spurs host show
The annual Silver Spurs 4-H Horse Show was held June 24 with 45 contestants participating.
Age divisions were Junior I, Junior II, Intermediate, Seniors.
Events included Showmanship, Hunter Under Saddle, Hunter Under Saddle Equitation, Western Pleasure, Horsemanship, Ranch Pleasure, Trail, Reining, Pole Bending and Barrel Racing.
Judges for the day were Les Zadina, Ogallala and Shaylee Heathers, Lincoln.
Prizes donated by 4-H families, Frenchman Valley Coop, Oxford Trailer Sales and Dave and Trish Oxford,
Those receiving High Point for the day were Sidney Morgan of Sutherland, Senior; Wyatt Krausnick, Imperial, Intermediate; Tonya Deaver, Hayes Center, Junior II; and Jaylyn McDermott, North Platte, Junior I.
High Point prizes for each age division were trailer bucket holder with bucket, sponsored by Overhead Door Specialists, Trent and Jodi Spady.
The Chase County 4-H Horse Show will be Sunday starting at 8 a.m. at the Chase County Fairground’s Allo Arena.
