Hearing set for Missouri man in high-speed chase

    Tevin Thompson, the man involved in a high-speed chase through Chase County March 3-4, will be in court March 22 for a preliminary hearing.
    Thompson, 30, of Centralia, Missouri, is in the Chase County Jail charged with felony terroristic threats and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, and two vehicle misdemeanors.
    His preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. March 22 before Judge Edward Steenburg.
    Since his arrest March 4, the court appointed Leslie Nordhausen of Imperial as his attorney last Thursday after he was adjudged indigent.
    Thompson is charged with terroristic threats, a Class IIIA Felony, and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, a Class II felony.
    Also on the complaint signed by County Attorney Joel Burke are misdemeanor charges for operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest and willful reckless driving.
    On March 6, Chase County Clerk Magistrate Karen Mueller formally recused herself from the case as her spouse, County Sheriff Kevin Mueller, issued the citation/complaint against Thompson.
    Another Clerk Magistrate from Dist. 11 will handle the case in her place.
    Thompson was arrested after a high-speed chase that started in Phillips County, Colorado about 10 p.m. March 3 and continued into Chase County.
    Law enforcement vehicles chased Thompson through Imperial and east out of town on rural roads, before losing him when he entered a field. He later crashed his vehicle and walked an estimated 5 miles to the Larry and Linda Rose home on 340 Road just off old Highway 6.
    There, he brandished a knife, threatening the couple but left the home after Larry Rose brought out a firearm.
    He was found later, and arrested, about a mile and a half from the Roses’ home.
    Holyoke, Colorado police officers began the chase when they alleged Thompson entered Holyoke at a high rate of speed. It was discovered after running his license plates in Chase County that Thompson was wanted on two felony stalking warrants in Missouri.
    Thompson remains jailed on a $200,000 bond.
