German, Carter to be sentenced next month

    In just over three weeks, Kevin German and Keonna Carter will be sentenced in Chase County District Court in the death of Annika Swanson of Imperial.
    District Judge Patrick Heng set Friday, Nov. 18, for sentencing. German will learn his fate at 9 a.m. that morning. Carter’s sentencing is set for 10 a.m.
    German, 26, was found guilty Aug. 3 on three counts—2nd degree murder, the kidnapping of Swanson and 1st degree false imprisonment of Eve Ambrosek. On two of the counts, German had been charged with 1st degree murder and kidnapping of Ambrosek.
    On Aug. 3, Judge Heng ordered a presentence investigation for German prior to the sentencing.
    In late September, the court was informed by Carter’s lawyer that a plea agreement between the state and Carter had been reached.
    At that Sept. 27 hearing in Chase County District Court, Carter, 25, pled guilty to amended charges of first degree assault and kidnapping.
    She was originally charged with the 1st degree murder of Swanson and two counts of kidnapping. One of the kidnapping charges had been dropped/dismissed.
    The Nov. 18 sentencing will come just days away from the third year anniversary of Swanson’s murder.
    Her body was found Nov. 24, 2019 in a rural location south of Imperial. Swanson was 22 at the time of her death.
