Former resident dies in I-80 rollover

    Rebecca “Becky” Freeman, a former Imperial resident, died in an Interstate 80 accident last week near Paxton.
    The former Becky Lee moved with her family to Imperial in 1966. She graduated from Chase County High School in 1969.
    She was the daughter of Bob and Annetta Lee. Her brother Ed Lee and wife Betty live in Imperial.
    The Nebraska State Patrol investigated the July 10 accident reported at 12:55 p.m. CT on I-80 near mile marker 144.
    Their investigation shows the Honda Accord Freeman, 71, was driving was traveling eastbound on I-80 when it left the roadway, lost control and rolled several times into the median, across the west-bound lanes and into the north ditch.
    She was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Keith County Attorney.
    She was alone in the vehicle.
    Patrol Sgt. Justin Buhlke said their investigation has not  been able to determine what caused Freeman’s vehicle to leave the road, and whether she fell asleep or was distracted. He said there was one witness, who was driving west on I-80 and saw the vehicle roll across the westbound lanes.
    Sgt. Buhlke said no I-80 lane closures were necessary due to the accident.
    The State Patrol was assisted by the Keith County Attorney, Paxton Volunteer Fire Department, K&K Towing, Prairie Hill Funeral Home and the North Platte Police Department.
    Services were held Saturday in North Platte at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. See her full obituary above.
