Food Pantry donations sought
The shelves at the Chase County Food Pantry are looking a little empty this time of year. Although patrons will still find basic staples, the special, not-usually-donated foods such as olives or Italian sausage are not spotted on the shelves.
That’s in part due to a small budget and partly because donated food items are not coming in like they used to, according to Pantry President Nancy Terryberry. She said the Pantry saw a decrease in donations, both monetary and food, following the COVID epidemic.
“It used to be that churches and local organizations would bring in boxes of food they’d collected from residents,” Terryberry noted. “We always used those up immediately.”
At a meeting last week the volunteers present decided to purchase only basic staples such as, but not limited to, canned fruit and vegetables, pasta, bread and beans.
People needing help feeding their families may obtain food based upon the size of their family. The assistance is given once a month.
The Food Pantry is open Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Pantry is located adjacent to the city gymnasium.
Volunteers are always welcome, Terryberry noted. She may be contacted at 308-882-8019 for more information.
