Fairground projects a topic of discussion at Commissioners meeting March 12

The Chase County Commissioners held their regular meeting at 8 a.m. on March 12. The main item of business discussed was the current and future construction projects at the Chase County Fairgrounds.
Currently, multiple improvement projects are ongoing at the Fairgrounds. Projects include updating the VIP area, updating the entrance to the Grandstand, building a new ticket booth—among other updates. These projects have been planned and in the works for several months.
At the meeting last Tuesday, an update was provided by Scott Way, Vice President of the Fair Board. He stated that he has received informal bids for concrete work from Ryan Greene of Imperial Contracting at $32,376 and Doolittle Construction out of Madrid at $42,000. Way did note that the bid from Doolittle Construction included the cost of dirt work and other work already done by the company.
The Commissioners stated that they were unaware that any work was being done. They decided that the work presently being done by Doolittle Construction should stop until they can gather bids and make a decision on which bid to accept.
It was decided last fall that for any County project over $10,000, at least three informal bids must be sought. For anything over $50,000, formal bids should be solicited and the Commissioners were responsible for awarding the bid.
With the planned projects at the Fairgrounds being over $10,000, a bidding process needs to be completed. The Commissioners will start that process and discuss their progress at their next meeting.
As for the electrical updates needed at the Fairgrounds, Way told the Commissioners he has received bids from Brophy Electric for $11,740 and Pivot Electric for $10,775. The Commissioners will review these bids and discuss at their next meeting.
