Members of Imperial’s dance team took part in this summer’s Sizzle and Stomp Dance Class led by Vanessa Terryberry at Mid-Plains Community College. The group used the steps they learned to come up with their routine at the Dance Crew Contest Aug. 13 at the Chase County Fair.

Fair dance contest splits into dance, cheer divisions

This year’s Dance Crew Contest at the Chase County Fair grew in more ways than one. Not only did the Aug. 13 contest grow to 15 teams, it also split into dance and cheer divisions.
Eight dance teams and seven cheer teams competed at the event sponsored by Vanessa Terryberry and The Color Box. One individual performed but wasn’t judged.
Cheer teams performed a school cheer and at least a one-minute dance routine, while dance teams performed for at least two minutes.
Before the contest began, performers danced to music and showed off their moves. Individuals also had chances between team performances to do their best jump, splits and cartwheels.
Central City took first place in the cheer division, followed by Gordon-Rushville and the Tumbleweed Twisters.
In the dance division, North Platte Legacy was first, Tumbleweed Pom was second and a second North Platte Legacy team was third.
In each division, the first place team received $350, second won $250, while third took home $150. The top three in the two divisions also received  trophies.
Perkins County’s Ava Reese was named Best Cheerleader. Best Dancer went to Kyce Shimmin from North Platte Legacy.
Judges were Shaylee Paterson, Lori Odens, Tara Welp and Sydnie Allen.
