Enders place to be for ‘Haunted Camping’ events

Decorating contests, best costumes to be awarded with prizes

There may be no haunted house in Imperial this Halloween, but those wanting a haunting good time should get to Enders State Recreation Area this weekend.
Staff at the park is planning three days of free activities on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Oct. 29-31, said Recreation Area Supt. Beau Licking.
All events will be held at the Area A Campground near the shower house, Licking said.
On all three days, people young and old can take in the Walk the Haunted Trail from 5 to 9 p.m., games from 5 to 7 p.m., hayrack rides and refreshments, including cookies and hot apple cider.
Contests for decorated camper/campsites, pumpkin carving and costumes for all ages  are all in the plans. Winners will receive prizes.
The camper/campsite decorating contest is set for Saturday at 6 p.m., the pumpkin carving for all ages from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday and the costume contest for youths and adults on Monday at 6 p.m. Attendees can bring their pets, but they must be on a leash, he said.
A park entry permit is required for the events since they are located inside the state recreation area, Licking added. With not many days left in 2022, there are options to purchase daily passes at $6 per vehicle. Licking said they will have the daily passes for sale that day on site.
Off-season camping rates will be in effect this weekend for all the events, Licking added, at $25 for electrical spots and $10 for the primitive sites.
Game & Parks also has Halloween-themed events at the Red Willow SRA in McCook, Fort Robinson and Mahoney State Park.
