Dr. Kayla Luhrs resigned her position with Chase County Community Hospital and Chase County Clinics earlier this month.
She has moved from Imperial and is now working in Juneau, Alaska at Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium. She completed a clinical rotation there during her medical training.
Her sister, also a medical doctor, works at the same clinic, she said. They were raised in the coastal island town of Ketchikan, Alaska.
Along with serving patients of all ages, Dr. Luhrs said she’s excited to be able to work in obstetrics there.
“But, part of my heart is still in Nebraska. I liked my job there,” she said.
She worked at the hospital and clinics here just over a year, and expressed appreciation to the staff.
“I felt supported and was pleased with all of the opportunities I had,” she said.
Dr. Luhrs said she is early on in her career and wants to try out different opportunities available, noting she has a lot of years for medical practice ahead of her.
She has family in Nebraska and Imperial, adding, “I am not ruling out the possibility of returning someday.”
Medical staff currently at Chase County Community Hospital and its clinics include Dr. David Younger, Dr. James Kerr, Physician’s Asst. Jodie Spady and Nurse Practitioner Jamie Kuper.
Ally Jabonski, who is completing her Nurse Practitioner training, will join the CCCH staff in late summer or early fall, according to Shawn Jaeger, the hospital’s Foundation and Marketing Director.
