Remi, a 9 lb. chihuahua, is urged to pull further by Dolores Musquiz of Morrison, Colorado in the new dog pulling competition at this year’s Chase County Fair.

Dog pulling draws 20 entries for new CCF event

One of the new events at the 2022 Chase County Fair—a dog pull—drew a lot of interest with 20 animals entered in the Aug. 10 competition.
Here are the winners in each of the five divisions, along with the dog’s weight:
Coordinator Marcie Kelley said the contest accepted dogs  all sizes and was patterned after tractor pulls. Competing in five weight classes, and depending on their size, dogs pulled small filled bottles up to three beer keg sizes, depending on the dog’s weight.
First place dogs and their owner were awarded a dog bed and bag of treats. All dogs entered was given a toy, Kelley said.
The $400 raised from entry fees were donated to Veterinary Services for animals that need vaccinations or other procedures whose owners cannot afford it or who are strays, she said.
There is a lot of interest in holding a dog pull next year, Kelley said. She hopes to hold it an hour later to take advantage of the shade.
Here are the first place winners and dogs with their weights:
Rosalee Jenkins with Weiners, 6.5 lbs
Dolores Musquiz with Remi, 9 lbs.
Zoey Kelley with Oakley, 18.9 lbs.
Lori Sis and Hailey Markee with Archie, 33 lbs.
Tysen Lempke with Duke, 70 lbs.
