District Governor installs three new Lions members

The Imperial Lions Club is three members larger after the installation of Kristen Malone, Casey Malone and Chris Bustillos last week.
Lions District Governor Nick Dobesh of Chadron attended the club’s Feb. 27 meeting, and conducted the installation of the new members.
Each new member received a membership packet along with Dobesh’s District Governor coin. The District Governor explained that instead of presenting a pin during his year as Governor, he chose a “Rise from the Ashes” coin, which highlights the planting of 67,000 trees in the Pine Ridge after the area’s recent devastating fires.
In his full-time job with the U.S. Forest Service, Dobesh has a direct tie to the tree recovery on the state’s burned areas in northwest Nebraska.
The District Governor encouraged the new members to be involved in their club, but not limit it there. He said involvement in district and state Lions events has allowed him to also meet “so many other great people across the state.”
He reviewed the goals of current 2023-24 International President, Dr. Patty Hill of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He credited the Imperial club for helping meet her top goal of increasing Lions membership to 1.5 million worldwide.
“It would be great to add three more members,” he said.
Other of the International President’s goals are a cleaner, greener environment, empowering even greater good and sharing the Lions story.
“We are the best kept secret,” Dobesh said.
He said Lions clubs need to get the word out better on their service activities and the good they do in their communities.
Easter Egg Hunt
The Imperial Lions are busy making final plans for the annual community Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 23, at 1 p.m. at Campbell Park.
Age groups will be toddler age up through second grade, separated into four areas at the park.
Hundreds of eggs will be distributed in each age division. More than 300 of the eggs will contain quarters donated by Adams Bank & Trust, Pinnacle Bank, Waypoint Bank and the Imperial Credit Union.
If the weather is bad on March 23, the hunt will be moved to March 30. Easter will be celebrated on March 31.
