County hosting scrap tire cleanup in April

The Chase County scrap tire collection will be held April 14-15, with storm dates of April 21-22.
The collection will take place at the Imperial Transfer Station. The collection will be open to all Chase County residents. Chase County employees will be present to unload, weigh and assist with waste tires.
The collection will be on a “first come, first served” basis until the limit of 150 tons is met.
Tires must be removed from rims and floater or large construction tires will not be accepted. No dealers or those who collect a tire disposal fee will be allowed to participate.
Chase County was awarded a grant from NDEQ to the collection. The grant will pay for the hauler to pick up the tires, as well as a portion of advertising and labor costs associated with the collection.
The grant is part of NDEQ’s Waste Reduction and Recycling Grants program and funded by a fee on new tire purchases in Nebraska. The end use of the recycled tires could be feed bunks, sidewall rings for silage cover weights or playground cover.
