Council will consider donation of lots for new sports complex

    Development of fields for baseball, softball and soccer may be moved off the back burner at Monday’s city council meeting.
    One of the agenda items at Monday’s 6 p.m. meeting will be consideration of the Citizen’s Advisory Committee recommendation to commit lots in the city-owned Cornerstone property for construction of a new sports complex.
    City Clerk/Administrator Jo Leyland said Wednesday the lots being considered are along 2nd Street.
    Earlier this year, park board members resurrected discussion of improvements at Schroeder Park, where younger ball teams play and soccer matches are held, with proposals for development there.
    Discussion also turned to a new complex for the ball programs in another location, with the suggestion to move soccer to a new site, as well.
    Several plans are being considered by the park board, Leyland said.
    She added if the CAC proposal moves forward with council approval, the Cornerstone lots will be donated for the project.
    Other items on Monday’s council agenda include:
    Recommendations by the city’s nuisance officer for rescinding, declaring and abating nuisances;
    Considering a resolution that would declare the recently-purchased 2015 Dodge Charger as surplus property and list it for sale. The vehicle was purchased when Police Officer Chris Bustillos was hired with his canine partner;
    Purchasing new shade structure for the swimming pool;
    Adding the “Welcome to Imperial” sign to the city’s insurance coverage; and
    Recommendations for city code book changes.
    Other agenda items could be added as the meeting nears.
