Continuation granted in Ferguson case

Chase County District Court Judge Patrick Heng granted a continuation to Nov. 15 in the case of Tristan Ferguson during a pretrial hearing Oct. 25 at the Chase County courthouse.
Ferguson faces two felony counts relating to the shooting death of Jesse Krausnick in Ferguson’s residence in November 2022.
Ferguson’s attorney, Erin Wetzel of Omaha, who appeared telephonically, asked for the continuance based on the possibility of a plea agreement in the case. “I don’t anticipate this going to trial,” she told the judge.
County Attorney Joel Burke said he had no opposition to the extension.
Judge Heng asked Wetzel why Ferguson, who also appeared by telephone, was not present at the hearing, as directed.
Wetzel said Ferguson would have been present if the case was set for trial. With a possible plea agreement, Wetzel interpreted it wasn’t necessary for Ferguson to be present.
Judge Heng ordered Ferguson to be present at the Nov. 15 pretrial hearing set for 8:45 a.m.
After court was adjourned, Burke met with a number of Krausnick’s family members who attended the hearing.
Ferguson, who is out on bond, is charged with manslaughter, a Class 2A felony, and possession of a firearm in committing a felony, a Class 2 felony. He pled not guilty to both charges.
