Commissioners review bids, discuss other agenda items

The Chase County Commissioners met on March 26 for their regular meeting. Several items were on the agenda.
Fair Board representatives, Scott Way and Ryan Stromberger, joined the meeting to present the informal bids they had gathered for the planned concrete project at the fairgrounds. Imperial Contracting submitted a bid amounting to $32,376 while Doolittle Construction presented their bid at $32,723. Way indicated that he would prefer to award the bid to Doolittle Construction since they have already done work at the fairgrounds and have been a donor to the fair previously. The board voted to go ahead and approve Doolittle Construction for the project. The Fair Board hopes to have this project completed in time for Smokin’ on Broadway on June 29.
Bids to remove trees on Road 750 east of Stinking Water Creek were also reviewed. Kruger Backhoe out of Champion submitted a bid of $25,000 and Wiley’s Top Notch Tree Service out of Trenton submitted a bid of $32,000. Kruger Backhoe was awarded the bid.
Other agenda items discussed include amendments to the Police Service contract between the Village of Wauneta and the Chase County Sheriff’s Office. The Village of Wauneta submitted an amended contract with a few changes that will help to rectify the issues of daytime patrol presence in Wauneta and ensuring the Village Board representatives from the Sheriff’s Office attending Village Board meetings. These issues were originally brought up at the Commissioners meeting on March 5. The Commissioners approved this amended contract though final approval lies with the Village of Wauneta.
Representatives for Chase County Community Hospital also provided a report outlining the findings of an audit. CCCH Chief Financial Officer Matthew Musgrove reported that the hospital has seen consistent financial progress over the last few years. The representatives also submitted receipts for purchase of new equipment to be reimbursed out of the County’s Hospital Fund.
