Commissioners look for answers on trees in county’s right of way

The Chase County Commissioners had a quick and easy meeting for their first meeting of November.
During open forum at the Nov. 8 meeting Vincent Lee informed the commissioners that there are some dead trees in the county’s right of way along the Chase County-Perkins County line.
Lee asked who’s responsibility those trees are and what happens if a broken branch in the middle of the night caused a car accident.
Commissioner Duane Dinnel said state statute says the landowner is responsible for trees in the ditch, even if it’s considered county right of way.
The commissioners asked County Attorney Arlan Wine to look into the issue.
Discussion continued on wages for temporary or part time county road workers. The board talked about a maximum of $25/hour.
Former Highway Superintendent Jeff Tidyman forwarded documents to County Clerk Debbie Clark about an August inspection of the Wauneta North Dam. Current highway superintendent Toney Krajewski said the county will need to clean up around the outlet.
The next meeting of the commissioners will be Nov. 22 at 8 a.m.
