Commissioners assessing county’s appraisal options

Chase County Commissioners Kurt Bernhardt, Jacci Brown and Duane Dinnel met for their final regular meeting of the month May 23.
Assessor Tori Mueller walked the commissioners through several options for upgrades in her office.
One would be switching the county’s current GWorks website to a company called Sidwell. The same services would be provided and Sidwell works with the assessor’s Vanguard Appraisal system.
The county’s current problems with its Gworks website is thought to be coming from its compatibility with Vanguard.
Commissioner Dinnel would like to get to the bottom of the problem before putting money into a new company.
No action was taken.
Bids were opened by the commissioners for mass appraisal services for residential reappraisal for 977 parcels within the town of Imperial in 2024 and for rural residential, agricultural homes and outbuildings reappraisal for 590 parcels in 2025. All bids were from Lake Mac Assessment.
The board took no action.
Scrap metal and aluminum bids were also opened. Chuck Vette submitted the only bid and his offer of 30 cents for aluminum was accepted.
With no bids for the scrap metal, Dinnel suggested the road department employees haul scrap metal off when they have free time.
Southwest Nebraska Juvenile Services grant of $59,551 was accepted by the commissioners.
Highway Superintendent Toney Krajewski talked to the board about current road projects, including building up the shoulders on the blacktop west of Champion and working on the ditches on 347 Avenue north of Wauneta. Dinnel asked Krajewski  what could be done about the asphalt breaking up in Enders and Krajewski suggested crushed rock or gravel.
The next meeting of the commissioners will be June 13.
