CCS sophomore injured in accident near Enders Dam

Details continue to be gathered about an accident early Sunday morning that injured a sophomore at Chase County Schools.
Brock Leibhart of Imperial is recuperating from his injuries at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado.
According to a report from Chase County Chief Deputy Mike Dukes, Leibhart’s dad told him that Brock was the driver of the 2005 Ford F250 pickup and had lost control on the highway, south of Enders Dam. He was transported from there by a private party, according to the report.
County Sheriff Kevin Mueller said a snow plow operator came across the vehicle in the ditch and called 911 to report it around 5:40 a.m. Sunday.
Mueller said he had little information initially because the accident was not reported to his office when it happened.
“We responded to the call when the EMS and fire (department) were dispatched to it, but found out the accident happened about four hours before we were notified by the state road department,” Mueller said.
Doug Mitchell, Imperial Volunteer Fire Department chief, said the IVFD responded to the scene with six units after getting the 5:42 a.m. call.
Two Imperial EMS ambulances also were dispatched, as well as the deputy.
Mitchell said they found the pickup up the hill, south of the dam, and was lodged in the ditch on the north side of Highway 61. Several IVFD members checked the area and pickup to determine if there were victims, he said. None were found.
Mitchell said on the way to the scene early Sunday, they had radio communication that there were reports of an accident earlier.
“It’s one of those things, even with a possible previous accident, you still need to check it out,” he said.
It took them awhile to get there, he said, due to the large amounts of snow. The IVFD was on scene about half an hour.
The Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the accident.
